About

Two circles. An intersection. Something that did not exist before.

Vesica Press began with a problem.

There was work that could not find a home. Not because it was not ready but because it exceeded the categories the available homes used to organise themselves. Too creative for academic journals. Too intellectual for poetry magazines. Too strange for mainstream literary platforms. Too serious for everywhere else. The work fell between the cracks and the cracks were everywhere.

The press takes its name from the vesica piscis: the figure produced when two circles of equal size overlap. Neither circle alone produces it. It requires the collision. That collision is the only editorial principle we hold to. We publish the third thing - the work that could only exist because separate disciplines, genres or methods met and produced something neither of them contains.

Creative making produces genuine knowledge. Not metaphorical knowledge. Knowledge with its own rigour, its own precision, its own capacity to change what can be thought. Vesica Press exists to publish that knowledge, in whatever form it arrives.

Vesica Press is based in the North of England. We publish twice a year. We do not publish safe work.
